BlackHat Jiu Jitsu Club is a veteran-owned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling gym on the Southside of Jacksonville, in Unit 8 of an industrial park on Phillips Industrial Lane. The club started in 2024 and in July 2025 moved out of a garage into its current room: a full black mat space under hexagon lights, with the BlackHat logo in the middle of the floor. It trains adults, teens and kids, with a modern curriculum that borrows from wrestling, judo, MMA and current competition trends. Adult Jiu Jitsu runs at 6am Monday to Friday and 6pm Monday to Thursday. Kids train at 5pm Monday to Thursday, teens (ages 12 to 15) at 5pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and there is an 11am homeschool kids class on Mondays and Wednesdays (ages 4+). Friday evening has an Amateur MMA class, and the Saturday 10am open mat is open to everyone. Membership is month-to-month with no joining fee, the first 10 days are free, and the club offers discounts for full-time students, teachers, military and first responders. Cross-training at other gyms is encouraged. Founders Rob and Travis met in the Marine Corps in 2015 with 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, and started rolling on a 2016 deployment, on cardboard laid over the well deck of a Navy ship. After the Marines they trained at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, and Rob went on to earn his black belt in December 2023 at Gamblers Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing in Palm Beach Gardens under Jay Jay Wilson and Johnny Faria. Members compete at NAGA, Newbreed and IBJJF events.
