About

Titanium Jiu Jitsu is a family-run Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and wrestling academy on Santa Teresa Blvd in south San Jose, founded in 2025 by Amir and Kristin Mahboobi. Its motto is "Stronger Together", and it trains everyone from first-timers to competitors: adults, women and kids from age 4. Adult gi classes run at noon Monday to Friday and in the evenings, with no-gi on Wednesday nights, wrestling on Tuesday and Thursday nights and a women's class on Monday and Wednesday. Kids train in Lil Titans (ages 4-8) and Titans (ages 9-15), with a combined class on Saturday morning and a Friday competition class for kids who compete for the team. Your first class is free. Amir Mahboobi is a third-degree black belt. The coaching team includes black belts Karen Terra, whom the academy describes as a four-time Brazilian national champion, and Kevin Kopecky, plus wrestling coach Javin Aragon. The team competes regularly: at BJJ Tour California in October 2026 its athletes won four golds and three silvers, and the team placed 9th of 47.

Amir Mahboobi

Co-Founder · BJJ Black Belt (3rd Degree)

Third-degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt. Co-founded Titanium Jiu Jitsu with Kristin Mahboobi in 2025 as a family-run academy, with the goal of making jiu jitsu accessible to everyone, from first-timers to high-level competitors.

Karen Terra

Professor · BJJ Black Belt (1st Degree)

Active black belt competitor; the academy describes her as a four-time Brazilian National Champion, with titles at the San Jose, San Diego, Oklahoma and Sacramento Opens. Took silver in the black belt light-feather division at the 2026 Pan IBJJF No-Gi Championship. Known for teaching guard concepts and strong fundamentals at every level.
