Kun Khmer's reach into the Americas took a formal step forward in São Paulo, Brazil, where the latest Kombat Challenge Series K-021 event closed with the appointment of new national representatives across the Pan-American region.
Major General Khov Chhay, Secretary General of the Kun Khmer International Federation, appointed representatives for Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Venezuela, and Guadeloupe — a single announcement that lays down an official structure for the sport across most of South America and into the Caribbean.
"A historic milestone as Kun Khmer continues its expansion throughout the Pan American region. Together, we are building new opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials, and future generations while sharing the rich heritage of Cambodia with the world."
— Rick W. Shin, President of Kombat Global
Why this matters for the Americas
Until now, Kun Khmer's growth outside Cambodia has been carried largely by diaspora communities and a handful of dedicated gyms. Naming official national representatives changes that. It gives athletes a sanctioning pathway, gives coaches and officials someone to organize around, and gives the federation a real presence in a region where the striking-sports audience is enormous but Kun Khmer has had almost no formal footprint.
A heritage going global
Choosing São Paulo — and a Kombat Challenge Series card — as the stage is fitting. Brazil is one of the largest combat-sports markets in the world, and doing this at a live event puts Cambodia's national sport in front of exactly the athletes and promoters who can carry it forward. For the eight territories named, the work now begins: building gyms, developing fighters, and training the officials who will run the sport for the next generation.
