About

Punta Gorda Martial Arts (PGMA) is a family-owned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing gym on Elizabeth Street in Punta Gorda, Florida, open since 2012. Owner and head instructor Professor Tony is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Robson Moura, whom the gym describes as an 8-time world champion, and the academy is part of Moura's RMNU (Robson Moura Nations United) association. Classes run Monday to Saturday: Tiny Warriors (ages 4-6) and Young Warriors (ages 7-11) kids jiu-jitsu, Teens & Adults BJJ in the gi and no-gi, kids and adult kickboxing, a weekday-morning Homeschool Jiu-Jitsu class, and a Saturday open mat for gi and no-gi. Beginners and advanced students train together, and the gym says its mats are cleaned every day. Coach Cliff, a purple belt under his father Professor Tony who also runs Desoto Martial Arts in Arcadia, coaches jiu-jitsu, and Coach Angel, a BJJ brown belt, leads kickboxing. Memberships are month to month with no long-term contract, there is a family discount and plenty of free parking, and new students get their first week free.
