About
About
Stoic Martial Arts is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy at 1455 Park Road in Chanhassen, in the southwest Minneapolis suburbs, training students from Excelsior, Minnetonka, Victoria, Chaska and Eden Prairie. Alongside adult Gi and No-Gi BJJ it runs boxing, Muay Thai, an invite-only MMA class, and a kids program that pairs Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Ninja Fit obstacle training. The gym is set up for beginners: new students start in dedicated Beginner BJJ and Beginner Boxing classes that teach the basic positions, terminology and safe movement before moving into the full schedule. Gi classes run Monday and Saturday, No-Gi Tuesday to Friday. Kids aged 6 to 12 do Ninja Fit with BJJ on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and a formal Kids BJJ class on Saturday morning. Your first class is free, as a private intro with a coach; book ahead on the gym's website. The academy is led by Mason McClellan, known on the mat as Mason Ryan, a 2017 Alliance Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt with, by the gym's count, more than 30 years in BJJ, submission grappling, MMA and Muay Thai. His formative training came at Greg Nelson's Academy. The house rule is "train without ego", and the motto is "Progress not Perfection".
