About
The Kru Muaythai Association (KMA, สมาคมครูมวยไทย) is a Bangkok-based non-profit that certifies Muay Thai and Muay Boran teachers, or "Krus". A group of senior Thai grandmasters registered it with the Office of the National Culture Commission, Ministry of Culture, on 9 May 2003, and it is chaired by Grand Master Chinawut Sirisompan (Master Woody), who also presides over the World Muay Boran Federation (WMBF). KMA runs the Khan grading system, Khan 1-10 for students and Khan 11-19 for teachers, and certified Krus are authorised to examine and grade their own students. Its 10-day Assistant Kru (Khan 11) and Kru (Khan 12) courses, with a strong focus on Muay Boran, Wai Kru and Thai culture, are taught all year round by arrangement at its headquarters, Luktupfah Muaythai Academy in Prawet, Bangkok, alongside coach and referee courses. KMA also registers Muay Thai schools, keeps a world directory of KMA Krus and counts more than 1,000 registered Krus in some 60 countries.
